Islamic Republic in Iran hangs 24-Year-old woman who defended herself from sexual assault Yesterday the regime executed Marziyeh Neyri yesterday, a young woman who was forced into marriage at age 17 and hanged for fighting back against her attacker. Marziyeh was 18 years old when her husband's associate attempted to sexually assault her in her own home, in front of her husband. She grabbed a kitchen knife to defend herself. Her husband died in the struggle. She told the court she had been repeatedly assaulted by her husband's associates before that day. Iran's courts didn't care. The regime rejected her self-defense claim. Her attacker, who survived, took the stand and called her a murderer. The court believed him over her. She was sentenced to death. No clemency. No mercy. The sentence was carried out at Chubindar Prison in Qazvin. Marziyeh Neyri never had a chance. Forced into marriage as a child under Iran's Islamic laws, she spent the few years of her adult life in a courtroom, fighting for her life after defending it. She lost. This is the Sharia Laws in Islamic Republic of Iran where a woman can be hanged for surviving. 💔

STOP comparing Afghan women in burqas and Iranian women under compulsory hijab with Christian nuns. This really isn’t complicated. A nun chooses to become a nun. Her vow applies to her. She doesn’t take the vow and suddenly every woman in Italy has to cover her hair. And if she removes her veil, the morality police don’t show up to beat her, arrest her, or throw her in prison. That’s the difference. In Iran and Afghanistan, the rules don’t care whether you’re religious, secular, Muslim, atheist, or just want to be left alone. You’re a woman? Congratulations. The authorities have a dress code for you. And please stop pointing at little girls in hijab and calling it “choice.” Some of these children can’t even read yet. They’re old enough to choose a religious obligation for life, but apparently not old enough to choose what they want for lunch? Here’s the test nobody seems to want to take: What happens when a woman says NO? If the answer is guns and bullets, prison, beatings, losing your education, or being erased from public life, congratulations, you’ve discovered the difference between choice and coercion. And if you still think the Taliban model is somehow “liberating,” try it yourself. Cover up. Obey. Let religious authorities decide how you dress, where you go, whether you work, and when you’re allowed to speak. Then explain to Afghan women how empowered you feel. Is this really that difficult to understand? #LetUsTalk

I Support This Because Women Should Never Be Made Faceless in the Name of God. Portugal has just banned the full veil in public spaces. And a statement from its president particularly struck me: “The face must be considered a central element of human identity and communication.” I support this. I have spent years fighting compulsory hijab because I believe women must be free. But covering a woman’s entire face is different. The face is how we recognize one another, communicate, and participate in public life. A society has a legitimate interest in requiring people to show their faces in shared public spaces. And please don’t call the burqa or niqab “women’s liberation.” I come from a region where women are erased from public life in the name of religion. I am against forcing a woman to wear hijab. I am also against the ideology that tells women they should disappear behind a veil. I grew up in the Middle East. I saw how Islamists gradually turn demands into norms, and then frame any resistance as an attack on Muslims. Women should not be erased. Not by the state. Not by religion.

Apparently, we’ve reached the point where forcing a woman to disappear under a burqa is “cultural sensitivity,” but criticizing it is intolerance. Wear one for a day. Then explain to Afghan women why this is their “culture.” Five years of Taliban rule: No school, No university. No work. No freedom. Now, even a woman’s voice is treated as forbidden. Morality police patrol the streets with guns and whips to make sure women disappear. To those who asked why Iranian women Marzieh and Reyhaneh didn't report rape in court before defending themselves. Marzieh Nayeri was forced to marry a man at 17. Child marriage is legal under Sharia law in Iran. At 18, her husband's business associate, drunk, in her own home, tried to sexually assault her. Her husband watched and did nothing. She grabbed a kitchen knife. She fought back. The attacker was wounded. Her husband was killed. She hid for four days. Then she went to her brother for help. He turned her in to the police. She recorded a message for her mother before her execution: "I want the world to know what is being done to me." Iran hanged her on August 8, 2026. She was 24. Reyhaneh Jabbari was 19 when a former intelligence officer tried to sexually assault her. She fought back. He died. She spent seven years in Evin Prison. The world signed petitions. Iran sharpened the rope. She was 26. Iran hanged her anyway. In 2014. Under Sharia law in Iran, to prove rape, a woman must produce four male witnesses to the act itself. Four. Male. Witnesses. If she cannot, her accusation becomes a confession. She is no longer the victim. She is the criminal, facing flogging, prison, or death. This is not ancient history. This is the law still on the books today. The law that Abdul El-Sayed is asking Americans not to fear.

This is the new face of Iran? Let me tell you the truth: this is what resistance looks like in Iran. These are the brave women crushing the compulsory hijab law beneath their feet. And to those sitting comfortably in the West, lecturing me that the Islamic Republic has “reformed”: please don’t. I launched multiple campaigns against compulsory hijab in 2014. For more than a decade, women inside Iran have sent me videos of their civil disobedience, walking unveiled and breaking this discriminatory law. No, the Islamic Republic has NOT reformed. Hijab is still compulsory in Iran. A seven-year-old girl is still forced by law to cover her hair to enter school, or she can be denied education. Women can still lose their jobs. Businesses are still being shut down for refusing to enforce hijab. What you see today on the streets of Iran is not the regime reforming. It is not the regime retreating. It is women refusing to retreat. The Islamic Republic gave women nothing. These women know the price of resistance can be prison, lashes, or even death, like Mahsa Amini in the hand of morality polic. And still, they stand tall and take back the rights that were stolen from them. Yes, Woman, Life, Freedom was never just a slogan. It was a revolution. In France, Gisèle Pelicot became a hero. In Iran, she would have been hanged like Marziyeh and Reyhaneh Jabbari. Thanks to @CBSNews for the opportunity to tell Marzieh's story, a child bride in Iran who did the ONLY thing she could when a man tried to rape her. Iran called it murder. And hanged her. Reporting rape is impossible, because under Sharia law, you must produce 4 male witnesses to the assault itself. If you can't, your accusation becomes a confession. You are no longer the victim.
