أقرّ مجلس النواب أمس قانون إلغاء عقوبة الإعدام، في خطوة مهمة جدًا، إن على الصعيد الإنساني، أو على صعيد نظرة العالم المتحضّر إلى لبنان. الجدير بالذكر أننا كنا قد تقدّمنا بهذا المشروع في شباط 2012، من خلال النائب السابق إيلي كيروز، وعاد بعدها نواب تكتل الجمهورية القوية المتعاقبون إلى العمل عليه ومحاولة الدفع به إلى الأمام، لاسيما في الفترة الأخيرة، حيث انكبّت لجنة الإدارة والعدل على إنهاء جميع تفاصيله وإرساله إلى الهيئة العامة. فهنيئًا للبنانيين بهذا القانون، لأنه خطوة أساسية على طريق لبنان الحضارة والنور والإشعاع الذي طالما حلمنا به. آملين بشدة أن يمرّ قانون العفو الذي وُضعت كثير من العراقيل في طريقه، فإننا مصممون على الاستمرار في دعمه وتأييده حتى إقراره.

ولو مرّ ستون عاما على انفجار المرفأ، فسيبقى يحفر عميقًا في وجداننا. في الذكرى السادسة لانفجار المرفأ، أتقدّم مرةً جديدة بأحرّ التعازي إلى أهالي ضحايا هذا الانفجار. وعزاؤنا الأساسي هذا العام أننا موعودون من أعلى المراجع القضائية بأن القرار الظني في هذه الجريمة سيصدر خلال أشهر قليلة، لتبدأ بعدها المحاكمات، وينال المرتكبون العقاب المناسب. إن هذه القضية لن تموت طالما أن وراءها مُطالب، فكيف إذا كنا من أشد المطالبين بإحقاق الحق وكشف الحقيقة.
