Ramya, her grandfather and uncle were killed in a crash in Hyderabad's Banjara Hills on July 1, 2016, when a car allegedly driven by a drunk driver crashed into their vehicle. Now, as the long-pending case finally enters trial before the VII Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court, Ramya's parents say the decade-long wait has been marked by grief and an enduring hope for justice. Radhika, Ramya's Mother said, "It's very hard to digest the things. The accident occurred on July 1st 2016. 10 years is a long period and we faced a lot of hardships and we have not come out of the trauma at all. Because 4 families have been affected because of that accident. We lost 3 members and 2 were severely injured. My younger daughter missed a nice mentor and I miss my princess. We miss her a lot. I miss my daughter a lot." Venkata Ramana, Ramya's father said, "The Ramya incident happened 10 years ago, but justice has still not been delivered. Dressed in black and holding up red cards, hundreds of footballers, coaches, parents, students and citizens gathered at Neville D’Souza Football Ground in Bandra West on Sunday evening to oppose the recent change in the reservation of the open space from a playground to an exhibition-and-convention centre by BMC.
