Joined the families of Ahmed Khalif and Sheikh Mahmoud Shibli in Nairobi to celebrate the wedding of their children, Abdirahman Ahmed Khalif and Maryam Sheikh Mahmoud Shibli, daughter of the esteemed Muslim scholar Sheikh Shibli. The nikkah, officiated by Sheikh Mohammed Abdi Umal in accordance with Islamic tradition, brought together political leaders, religious scholars and members of Nairobi's influential Eastleigh business community. I congratulated the newlyweds and urged them to build their marriage on the teachings of the Holy Quran and the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), with peace, mutual respect and understanding at its foundation. 'Barakallahu laka wa baraka ‘alayka wa jama’a baynakuma fi khayr.' I also used the occasion to call for unity within the community and across the country, urging some key leaders of the previous regime to shun divisive politics and allow Kenyans to judge the current administration in 2027 on the basis of its record and delivery, rather than attempts to sow discord. The wedding was attended by MP Hon. Yussuf Hassan (Kamukunji), Abdi Mohamud (CEO EACC), Former Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud, Ahmed Abdullahi Yare (Chair Eastleigh Business Community), Former MP and Ambassador Hon. Presided over by H.E. President @WilliamsRuto, I led the Ministry's delegation today at the 2026 Kenya Health Summit hosted at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), held under the theme, 'Reforms Delivered, Health as a Right.' The two-day Summit brings together national and county governments, the private sector, development partners, health professionals, leaders and citizens to take stock of our health transformation and chart the next phase of delivering Universal Health Coverage (UHC). In my remarks, I highlighted key reforms under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), including health financing, digital health, specialised care, health products, maternal and newborn health and workforce strengthening. Through the KSh9.6 billion National Equipment Service Programme (NESP), 862 specialised medical equipment units have been deployed to 251 facilities across 44 counties, bringing specialised services closer to communities and reducing unnecessary referrals. At the same time, the Digital Health Agency has distributed more than 42,000 devices, powering Taifa Care, electronic medical records, biometric verification and real-time SHA claims processing. The Social Health Authority (SHA) has onboarded 32.3 million Kenyans, with more than 10,000 facilities accredited to provide services. Meanwhile, KSh10 billion has been invested in recapitalising KEMSA, helping raise the order fill rate from 35 per cent to 95 per cent and strengthening the availability of essential medicines and medical commodities. Through the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) programme, the Government is accelerating efforts to prevent avoidable deaths, while the recruitment of 5,000 additional nurses and midwives will strengthen frontline maternity and newborn care. Over the past four years, 24,573 healthcare interns have also been deployed across all 47 counties, while 7,414 UHC staff have transitioned to permanent and pensionable terms from 1 July 2026, supported by KSh8.94 billion. The Summit provides an important platform to assess progress, confront remaining gaps and accelerate reforms across health financing, primary and community health care, human resources, health products, digital health, health security and specialised and referral services. Our shared goal is to build a health system that is accessible, affordable, accountable and responsive to the needs of every Kenyan. The session was attended by Deputy President H.E Prof Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Hon. Concluding my health development tour of West Pokot County, I presided over a resource mobilisation drive hosted by Pokot East MP Hon. David Pkosing at Nyarkulian Primary School grounds, in support of 22 women's empowerment groups under the Nyarkulian Women Silk Groups umbrella. I commended the women for their collective pursuit of economic self-reliance, noting that such grassroots initiatives are central to advancing the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). I also rallied residents behind H.E President William Ruto's 2027 re-election bid, urging them to support the continuity of the administration's development agenda. I cited the gains made in the region, including improved security, the decline of banditry, ongoing tarmac road construction and expanded electricity connectivity. On preparations for the 2027 General Election, I called on the IEBC to remain independent, resist political interference and focus on delivering a free, fair and credible electoral process.

Ahead of and in preparation for the two-day Health Summit scheduled for 18th and 19th October 2026 at the Kenya International Convention Centre (KICC), I inspected the venue to assess our readiness for the national dialogue, to be presided over by H.E. President William Ruto, under the theme, 'Reform Delivered, Health as a Right.' The Summit will showcase the progress of the Government's health reforms under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), demonstrating how a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society approach is transforming healthcare. Among the key milestones are the digital health transformation, improved efficiency at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), whose fill rate now exceeds 90 per cent, expanded specialised services through the National Equipment Service Programme (NESP) and the onboarding of more than 31 million Kenyans onto the Social Health Authority (SHA). Primary Healthcare will remain central to the discussions, particularly the role of Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in bringing essential services closer to households. The Summit will also highlight efforts to improve maternal and newborn health through the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) initiative and the planned deployment of an additional 5,000 nurses and midwives. Bringing together healthcare workers, institutions and other key actors across the health sector, the Summit will culminate in a Presidential Town Hall, giving Kenyans an opportunity to share their experiences, concerns and expectations. It will be a moment to account for reforms delivered, listen to citizens and collectively shape the next phase of the journey towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC), where health is a right, not a privilege.
