Fue un hombre íntegro, demócrata coherente y estadista que honró el servicio público y la institucionalidad del Ecuador. A sus familiares, amigos y a quienes compartieron con él el compromiso por el país, les extiendo mi solidaridad en este momento de dolor. Ya era hora de que Hernán Luque Lecaro enfrente a la justicia ecuatoriana. En su momento, llamé a Patricia Bullrich, entonces Ministra de Seguridad de la Nación Argentina, para exponerle el caso y solicitar su intervención para lograr la extradición. La Fiscal General, Diana Salazar, estuvo informada de esa gestión y facilitó la información pública disponible en ese momento. Tras un proceso judicial prolongado, la Corte Suprema de Argentina ha autorizado la extradición. La justicia puede tardar, pero no debe detenerse. Rafael Correa ha mencionado una conversación conmigo. Si se refiere a ella, ocurrió en mayo de 2021, cuando yo era presidente electo. Eso fue hace más de cinco años. Desde entonces no he conversado ni con Rafael Correa ni con Jaime Nebot. Cualquier intento de presentar esa conversación como reciente es simplemente falso. No tengo nada que conversar con ellos.
