30 sierpnia odbył się w Ostrówkach na Wołyniu pogrzeb 55 Polaków zamordowanych 30 sierpnia 1943 roku w Ostrówkach i Woli Ostrowieckiej. Wśród odnalezionych ofiar było 26 dzieci. Po 83 latach szczątki wydobyto z dołów śmierci i złożono w ziemi. Ofiary otrzymały groby, krzyże i tablice. Zabrakło jednak informacji najważniejszej: kto je zamordował. Na obelisku widnieje napis: „Pamięci mieszkańców Ostrówek i Woli Ostrowieckiej, którzy zginęli 30 sierpnia 1943 roku. Niech spoczywają w pokoju”. Pod nim zaś: „Rząd Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej”. Nie napisano, że mieszkańcy tych miejscowości zostali zamordowani przez oddziały Ukraińskiej Powstańczej Armii. Nie wymieniono sprawców, chociaż są oni znani. Zbrodni dokonały: pododdział UPA dowodzony przez Iwana Kłymczaka „Łysego” oraz sotnia Iwana Zareczniuka „Worona”, wspierane przez część mieszkańców okolicznych ukraińskich wsi. W ciągu kilku godzin zamordowano w obu miejscowościach około 1050 Polaków. Treść inskrypcji jest rezultatem polsko-ukraińskich uzgodnień między resortami kultury. Ekshumację i pochówek oddzielono od właściwego upamiętnienia. Taki był warunek Ukraińców na który strona polska ochoczo się zgodziła. Ktoś, kto za kilkadziesiąt lat zatrzyma się przed tym obeliskiem, dowie się tylko, że mieszkańcy Ostrówek i Woli Ostrowieckiej „zginęli”. Nie zostali zamordowani – „zginęli”. Nie wiadomo, czy z rąk UPA, NKWD, Einsatzgruppen, Wehrmachtu, czy może wskutek działań wojennych. Sprawcy rozpłynęli się w gramatycznej mgle. I właśnie o to chodzi. Polska prosi o ekshumacje, Ukraina udziela zgody, a ceną staje się przemilczenie odpowiedzialności katów. Dostajemy zgodę na odnalezienie kości, ale nie na umieszczenie nad grobem pełnej prawdy. W filmie „Wołyń” Wojciecha Smarzowskiego pada następująca sentencja: „Kresowian zabito dwa razy: raz przez ciosy siekierą, drugi raz przez przemilczenie”. Na naszych oczach dokonuje się trzeci akt ich martyrologii. Najpierw odebrano im życie. Potem odmawiano im pamięci. Dziś otrzymują groby, ale z napisów usuwa się imiona i symbole morderców.
