Michael McFaul engagement report
@McFaul - 887K followers on X
Measured over 39 original posts from a 30-day window, last computed on August 29, 2026.
Engagement
A typical post picks up 382 interactions against 887K followers, an engagement rate of 0.043%. Measured over 39 original posts, its engagement rate beats 58% of 3,848 tracked accounts of a similar size, which puts it in the middle of its size range rather than at either end. Posts are seen about 32K times each, and 1.21% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 3.56% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 3.8 posts a day over the last 30 days, though only 37% of days saw any activity at all. Most posts go out around 09:00 UTC, and Thursday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 39 posts sampled, 51% carry an image or video and 31% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 5.8K interactions, about 15x its own typical post. Recurring topics include #freeminzin, #china, #wrongfullydetained.

Compared with accounts its own size
Michael McFaul's engagement rate beats 58% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (3,848 accounts, accounts of similar size (decile 9 of 10)). A percentile is spread evenly by construction, so 50 really is the middle of that group and 90 really is its top tenth.
On engagement per impression rather than per follower it beats 56% of the same group. When those two numbers disagree, the gap is about how far its posts travel rather than how people react to them.
Where this sits in the catalog
At 0.043%, Michael McFaul sits above the 25th percentile of the 37,320 accounts in this comparison. That places it in the below the median band, which runs 0.012% to 0.081%.

This account posts most often around 09:00 UTC, and Thursday is its busiest day of the week. The bars below are the catalog-wide pattern, with this account's own busiest slot marked. They do not show how this account performs at each hour: we keep one aggregate per account, not one per hour, so that measurement does not exist in our data.

Russia has just hit the largest shopping mall in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. At least 15 people have been killed and more than 120 injured, including dozens of children. The death toll is still rising. This was a shopping mall. Not a military base. Not an ammunition depot. Not a command center. A shopping mall filled with ordinary people going about their lives. Russians attacked in two waves. After the first strike, emergency workers rushed to the scene to rescue the wounded. Then russians struck the area again. This is what russia’s war against Ukraine looks like - plain terrorism! Shopping malls. Apartment buildings. Hospitals. Schools. Families. Children. And while politicians continue talking about negotiations and “peace,” russia continues killing Ukrainian civilians. Russian evil must be stopped at any cost.

America won the Cold War by building strong alliances, championing democracy, anchoring the global financial system, and maintaining an open economy. Those same advantages could help us compete with China and Russia today. Trump is dismantling them. https://t.co/rgV1lAUpnu https://t.co/vSAXY01LPT

Trump has very weak public support for most of his imprudent, self-damaging foreign policies. Few Americans support his disastrous failure of a war against Iran, berating/abandoning our allies in Europe and Asia, annexing Greenland or the Strait of Hormuz, imposing tariffs irrationally and emotionally, and embracing dictators . He wasn’t elected to do any of these things. He is just ad libbing , driven entirely by his own personal impulses. And tragically, those around him are too timid to try to constrain his worst ideas.

Trump seems to like North Korea and Russia more than South Korea and Ukraine. He seems pretty partial to the Peoples Republic of China compared to Taiwan. He’s an original, that’s for sure. I’m ready for a not-so-original president again. Call me conservative. Call me conventional. But that’s my preference.

- What is Michael McFaul's engagement rate on X?
- Michael McFaul (@McFaul) has an engagement rate of 0.043%, based on the median interactions across 39 original posts from the last 30 days against 887,165 followers. Replies, reposts and quote-posts of other people are excluded from that sample.
- Is that a good engagement rate?
- At 0.043%, Michael McFaul sits above the 25th percentile of the 37,320 accounts in this comparison. Those comparison accounts are all large ones, because our scanning cadence is weighted towards big accounts, so this is a ranking among peers of similar scale rather than a ranking across X.
- Does @McFaul have real engagement?
- Its engagement rate beats 58% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (3,848 accounts), which puts it in the middle of its size range group. Ranking inside a size band matters because engagement rate falls as accounts grow, so a raw rate would mostly re-measure the follower count. It is a starting point for a look at follower quality, not a verdict on it.
- When does @McFaul post?
- Most posts go out around 09:00 UTC, and Thursday is its busiest day, at roughly 3.83 posts per day across the measured window.
