I grew up thinking Islam was anti-sleep. I'd read verses about people who "abandon their beds, invoking their Lord with hope and fear" (Qur'an 32:16) and think: to be a better Muslim, I need to give up sleep. I'd read about the Prophet's ﷺ night prayer, and feel it was impossible to emulate. A friend of mine once told me: "If you can manage your sleep, you can manage your life." That made me want to understand, study and experiment with sleep, so I could stand in prayer at night, wake for Fajr with ease, and still manage my other responsibilities. What surprised me along the way is that there are things we can do on a practical day to day level (most of them are very prophetic) that can help us rise up with sleep for both worship and life.
