للمناقشات بشأن مضيق هورمز وحقوق الدولتين المشاطئتين على مياههما الإقليمية، إنعكاس مهم على مضيق تيران، فإخراج جزيرة تيران من ملكية مصر يحول المضيق لممر بين يابستي دولتين، تماما كمضيق هورموز، وإذا كان الأخير مهما للتجارة الدولية، فالأول لا يقل عنه أهمية للأمن العربي بل ربما يفوقه.

من أبرموا اتفاقات سلام ظنوا أنه يتحقق بضبط نفس وإغماض عين كلما خرقه طرف، بينما لا قيمة لاتفاق مكتوب إذا استمرّ طرف بخرقه واكتفى الآخر بصمت المغلوب على أمره، يأتي السلام فقط عندما يدرك المنفلت أن الآخر لديه شجاعة الاتفاق وشجاعة الردع وشجاعة الانسحاب والعودة للحرب إن استخفّ به.
