🇳🇬 Nigeria just completed a 10-year review of its Antimicrobial Resistance surveillance system, and the findings show that progress has been made, but the work is far from over. From 9–10 July, the NCDC AMR Division (NiCaDe Project) & Robert Koch Institute convened a 2-day stakeholder dialogue in Abuja on strengthening Nigeria’s Hub-and-Spoke model for AMR surveillance, diagnostic stewardship & antimicrobial use. What 10 years of data tells us: ✅ The system is growing ✅ The data is improving ⚠️ Drug-resistant infections are still a major problem ⚠️ Not all of Nigeria is equally represented yet – and we need to fix that. Teaching hospitals from LUTH, UCH & OAUTHC shared their Hub-and-Spoke journeys – proof that mentorship + multidisciplinary stewardship teams can extend AMR capacity beyond tertiary centres. The dialogue closed with a roadmap, stakeholder commitments, and an action matrix to guide the next phase of Nigeria’s AMR response. Nigeria continues to strengthen its preparedness for public health emergencies through collaboration, coordination, and strategic planning. Over two days, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) convened stakeholders for a National Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Preparedness Tabletop Simulation Exercise aimed at testing national and subnational readiness for a potential Ebola outbreak. The exercise assessed coordination mechanisms, incident management systems, risk communication, healthcare worker protection, and multi-sectoral response strategies through progressive simulation scenarios designed to strengthen decision-making under evolving public health risks.
