  RE:STATEMENTS MADE AT THE NBA CONFERENCE, PORT HARCOURT, REGARDING POLICE COMPLICITY IN KIDNAPPING INCIDENTS The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to comments made by Mr. Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as “VeryDarkMan(VDM),” at the recent Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Conference in Port Harcourt, in which he alleged that police officers manning checkpoints along major highways relay information to kidnappers and bandits regarding the identity and movement of travellers, thereby facilitating abductions for ransom. The Nigeria Police Force takes all allegations concerning the conduct of its personnel seriously. We wish to state clearly: 1. On the Nature of the Allegation The Nigeria Police Force firmly rejects these allegations as unsubstantiated and unfairly damaging to an institution entrusted with the protection of millions of Nigerians. Allegations of this gravity demand a corresponding standard of evidence, and that standard has not yet been met. For the avoidance of doubt, police personnel deployed to checkpoints and other locations nationwide are there to prevent crime, detect criminal activity and protect citizens, not to facilitate kidnapping. Indeed, these same police officers routinely confront the very criminal elements alleged to be receiving such information. Police personnel have been ambushed, attacked and killed, while police stations, formations and operational assets have equally been targeted by terrorists, kidnappers and other violent criminals. 2. Our Officers Deserve Better Than Blanket Accusations The Nigeria Police Force is made up of hundreds of thousands of officers who report for duty daily under difficult, underfunded, and often dangerous conditions, many of them at checkpoints exposed to the very criminal elements they are trying to keep off our roads. Sweeping public accusations that paint the entire Force as complicit in the crimes it exists to prevent are deeply demoralizing to these officers and unfair to the majority who serve with integrity. Where individual officers are found to have compromised their duty, they will face the full weight of internal discipline and the law. But an entire institution should not be condemned on the strength of a public statement made without evidence. 3. Invitation to Substantiate Accordingly, the Nigeria Police Force hereby invites Mr. Martins Vincent Otse to produce, without delay, the evidence upon which he based these serious allegations, including any evidence that police personnel at checkpoints identify wealthy individuals and subsequently transmit information about them to kidnappers for the purpose of facilitating their abduction. Any such information will be treated with urgency and investigated thoroughly. We encourage any member of the public with credible evidence of officer misconduct to come forward through these channels rather than through public allegation alone, so that appropriate action can be taken. 4. On Resourcing The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to transparency and accountability. We will continue to investigate all credible allegations of misconduct,however they arise, and we will not hesitate to act where wrongdoing is established. However, the sacrifices of our personnel and the integrity of the institution will not be casually diminished by unverified allegations. Anyone with credible evidence of misconduct should bring it forward through the appropriate channels for investigation in accordance with the law. The Force calls on members of the public to exercise responsibility in making and sharing allegations concerning national security institutions and to distinguish between legitimate criticism, which strengthens accountability, and unsubstantiated claims, which can endanger public trust and national security.   NIGERIA POLICE FORCE REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO DUE PROCESS, INSTITUTIONAL DISCIPLINE, AND THE RULE OF LAW The Nigeria Police Force notes recent public statements and social media commentary by Mr. Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), concerning the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Lagos, and an ongoing criminal matter. The Force wishes to place the following facts on record and clarify the status of both the judicial and administrative processes involved. The criminal matter referenced in public commentary was investigated and is now before a court of competent jurisdiction, following the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). As the matter is subjudice, its adjudication rests solely with the judiciary. The Force will not try this case in the media, nor will it allow its outcome to be shaped by public campaigns or commentary seeking to prejudge the officers or parties involved. Separately, and in line with its internal accountability mechanisms, the Force confirms that the Assistant Inspector-General, Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has invited AIG incharge of Zone 2, AIG Moshood Jimoh for questioning in connection with the allegations raised. The Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, on 30th July 2026, formally issued a letter of invitation to Mr. Otse (VeryDarkMan), inviting him to appear at its Abuja office to substantiate the claims he has made in the public domain. These steps reflect the Force's standing commitment to investigate all credible allegations of misconduct, regardless of the rank of the officer involved or the public profile of the complainant, through its established channels, including the Force CID, the Force Complaint Response Unit, and, where applicable, the Office of the IGP. Discipline within the Nigeria Police Force is governed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Police Act 2020, Police Regulations, Force Orders, and other administrative procedures. These frameworks apply uniformly to every officer, at every rank. The Force affirms the constitutional right of every Nigerian to freedom of expression and to demand accountability from public institutions; constructive criticism remains vital to democratic policing. That said, freedom of expression does not extend to defamation or the amplification of unsubstantiated allegations as a means of compelling disciplinary outcomes outside due process. Allegations must be formally submitted, investigated, and objectively assessed. Any officer found culpable following investigation will face sanctions in accordance with the law. Equally, where allegations are established to be false and calculated to damage the reputation of an officer or the institution, the Force reserves the right to pursue appropriate legal remedies. The Nigeria Police Force urges Mr. Otse to honour the invitation extended by the Force CID, engage with the ongoing administrative review in good faith, and allow the judicial process governing the separate criminal matter to run its course. Grievances against officers are best resolved through established complaint and oversight mechanisms rather than public campaigns designed to force disciplinary outcomes. The Nigeria Police Force remains an institution founded on law, discipline, and accountability. No officer is above the law, and no genuine complaint is ignored; nor will any officer be sanctioned outside the procedures the law prescribes. The Force reaffirms its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the impartial administration of justice in the discharge of its constitutional mandate. The fleeing suspects abandoned the location upon sighting the approaching team, and efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest all members of the syndicate. ​The rescued victims are currently in safe custody and receiving necessary support.   BANDITS ATTACK POLICE CAMP IN SAKABA LGA, KEBBI STATE; POLICE OPERATIVES REPEL ATTACK, NEUTRALISE SEVERAL BANDITS The Nigeria Police Force confirms that on Monday, 10th August 2026, at about 0600hrs, a large group of armed bandits, numbering over 200 and riding on motorcycles, attacked a security camp at Makuku in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, occupied by personnel of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) Platoon 2 and Police Mobile Force (PMF) 48. On receipt of the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, immediately mobilised and deployed reinforcements, which were further supported by units of the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force drawn from within Kebbi and Katsina States. A fierce exchange of gunfire lasting over two hours ensued between security forces and the attackers. In the course of the operation, the Force sadly lost ten (10) personnel in the line of duty, while one vigilante member and two civilians also lost their lives in the attack. The remains of the fallen officers have been recovered and deposited at a mortuary in Birnin Kebbi. Next of kin are being duly notified, and further personal details are being withheld out of respect for the families at this time. The bandits suffered significant losses during the engagement, with at least seventeen (17) attackers believed to have been neutralised and several of their motorcycles destroyed by security forces before they fled the area, with surviving accomplices observed conveying the bodies away on motorcycles as they retreated. The Inspector-General of Police has commended the gallantry and sacrifice of the officers who repelled the attack and directed the immediate reinforcement of security architecture across Sakaba LGA and neighbouring communities to forestall further attacks. The Nigeria Police Force extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the officers, the vigilante member, and the civilians who lost their lives, and assures them of full welfare support in line with Force policy. Members of the public are urged to remain calm and to continue supporting security agencies with credible information. The Force reaffirms its commitment to protecting lives and property across the country and will not relent in its operations against banditry and armed criminality.   NIGERIA POLICE FORCE PARADES FOUR SUSPECTS OVER ORGAN HARVESTING AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING SYNDICATE IN NASARAWA STATE The Nigeria Police Force, through operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS), on 27th August 2026, paraded four suspects arrested in connection with an organ harvesting and human trafficking syndicate operating in Nasarawa State. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Special Tactical Squad carried out a sting operation on 19th August 2026 at about 18:00 hrs in Auta Balifi, Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, which led to the arrest of the suspects. Clothes purchased with proceeds of the crime were recovered as exhibits during the operation. The suspects arrested are Emmanuel Ode, male, 23 years, of Auta Balifi, Nasarawa State; Dr. Benjamin Oyime, male, 48 years, of Edo State, a Nephrologist (Kidney Consultant) and Consultant to Wellington Hospital, Life Camp, Abuja; Dr. Daniel Otukpa, male, 53 years, of Benue State, also a Nephrologist and Acting Director of Clinical Services at Wellington Hospital; and David Idoko, male, 25 years. During interrogation, Emmanuel Ode confessed to recruiting victims under false pretenses. He disclosed that on 24th April 2026, he lured one Samuel Ezekiel, 22, to Wellington Hospital, Life Camp, Abuja, where his kidney was allegedly harvested for the sum of $1,250 USD (One Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty US Dollars), equivalent to ₦1,700,000.00 (One Million Seven Hundred Thousand Naira) at the current exchange rate. A second victim alleged that he was lured by the same agent in 2022 to a hospital where his kidney was harvested, for which he was paid the sum of ₦7,000,000.00 (Seven Million Naira). Investigations revealed that the suspects and their accomplices allegedly targeted vulnerable and uneducated young persons within Nasarawa State and its environs, exploiting their financial desperation to obtain consent for illegal organ harvesting. Evidence gathered indicates that the suspects forged official documents, including victims’ names, National Identification Numbers (NIN), birth certificates, age declarations, affidavits, and consent letters to facilitate these criminal activities. The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its unwavering commitment to dismantling human trafficking and organ harvesting networks across the country and protecting vulnerable citizens from exploitation. Anyone who attempts to disrupt the process through violence, intimidation, or thuggery will face the full weight of the law. The NPF notes recurring election offences such as ballot snatching, voter intimidation, vote buying, and clashes between rival supporters, and stresses that none of these will be tolerated. Any person involved in such offences, whether as a direct perpetrator or sponsor, will be arrested and prosecuted, regardless of political affiliation or status. The Force affirms that securing the election is the sole responsibility of constitutionally recognised security agencies. The Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun), vigilante groups, the Joint Civilian Task Force (CJTF), hunters’ associations, community-based security groups, neighbourhood watch outfits, and all other non-state or quasi-security formations have no role in election security, including escorting materials, guarding polling units, mounting checkpoints, or bearing arms. The NPF urges full compliance in the interest of peace. The Nigeria Police Force clarifies that authorised agencies for election security are the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and other statutory bodies working together. This joint security deployment covers all 30 Local Government Areas of Osun State, securing polling units, collation centres, electoral materials, officials, observers, journalists, and voters. Political parties, candidates, and the public are warned against engaging, arming, or deploying any non-state security outfit for election-related purposes. Any member or sponsor of such unauthorised outfits will be arrested and dealt with according to the law. The NPF reiterates that all firearms, dangerous weapons, and offensive materials are strictly prohibited around polling units and collation centres, except those lawfully carried by accredited security personnel on election duty. Anyone found culpable of electoral offences, including thuggery, obstruction of electoral officials, unlawful possession of election materials, hate speech, or incitement to violence, will be arrested and charged to court. The Force has directed all commanders and personnel deployed for the election to act professionally, impartially, and firmly, in line with the rule of law and respect for human rights. The public, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, the media, and accredited observers are urged to report suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest security agency or established emergency channels—if you see something, say something. The Nigeria Police Force assures the people of Osun State, INEC, political parties, candidates, and all stakeholders of its commitment to a secure and peaceful environment where every eligible voter can freely exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation. The Police remain neutral, professional, and resolute, and will not allow any actor to undermine the peaceful conduct of the Osun State Governorship Election.
