Not good enough! The victims of this extreme Islamist terrorist attack deserve better than this - so does the Australian Jewish Community - so do all Australians. Fix it and call a full Commonwealth led Royal Commission that specifically deals with the rise of antisemitism in Australia, especially since October 7, 2023, just as @JoshFrydenberg passionately pleaded for on behalf of his community this week.

My calls for self regulation of the Islamic faith in Australia is requiring nothing more of Islamic religious leaders than any other faiths in Australia. I am asking for Islamic leaders to regulate and provide stronger protections against radicalisation within the Islamic faith community for the benefits of their own community and our wider Australian society. As I said in the speech, if there similar weaknesses in other faiths, including my own, the same requirements should apply.

The Bondi Terrorist Attack on our Jewish Community was the product of Anti-semitism that has been allowed to flourish in Australia since the October 7 attacks in Israel in 2023 and enable the terrorist violence that has now desecrated our nation. Antisemitism was the loaded weapon at the centre of this terrorist crime. That is the weapon that Govenments, and all Australians alike, must now be focussed on removing from our society. Reviews of all relevant security laws and operational practices are necessary and must be acted upon - this is standard practices, but they must not distract us from the primary cause of this terrorist attack - antisemitism. Once again the same excuses and diversions are being made for not dealing with the issue of Islamic extremist radicalisation in Australia. This is not about blame for December 14 - that is a straw man argument - but an honest appeal for what is needed to prevent such radicalisation in the future. Hollow appeals for unity mean nothing if they are used as an excuse for not confronting or acting on how radicalisation is occurring in Australia. This is as true of extremist Islam as it is for all other forms of political radicalisation, whether on the right or left, which is also present in Australia. We must stop avoiding the issue and work productively and honestly to address this issue for the sake of all faiths to make a positive and peaceful contribution. If not now after December 14, then when!

My friend and former colleague @JoshFrydenberg spoke bravely and passionately this week. My article published in the WSJ reflects Josh’s sentiments and highlights the urgent need to take action to counter anti-semitic extreme Islamist radicalisation in Australia. If these things cannot be said now, then when can they be said. More importantly they must lead to concrete action.
