Rather than organizing a demonstration, we should organise a celebration for CA3, which has set the stage for a government oriented toward development. Zimbabweans are not even inclined towards these demos as has been seen lately. None has been successful! The notion, by a few errant souls given money, that demonstrations catalyze meaningful change is not only misguided but also perilous. Our political landscape has been compromised by these elements whose political existence hinges on the destabilization of our nation. Their political survival is intricately linked to a climate of perpetual unrest. The machinery of their populist agenda requires an unyielding influx of public indignation to remain operational, compelling them to organise demonstrations. They resist granting the government even a momentary reprieve in this political engagement, during which nascent yet viable policies could take root. Instead, they perpetuate an atmosphere of immediate demands and scathing criticism, refusing to acknowledge the necessary interlude that exists between the conception of a policy and its execution. Only a few are given money and seek to destabilise the whole nation by calling for demos. I have always said whoever wants to demonstrate should come to the ground personally and we will join them. They won't! Otherwise, we should work towards a One Party State and development because so far this multi-party democracy thing has failed to produce anything. It's a high sounding theory which has failed to benefit the country on the ground. Kungoita ruzha but pasina chirikubuda. China through its "whole-process people's democracy", with only the Communist Party of China (CPC) as the sole political party is growing. It has managed to develop itself into a very modern state. Alternative parties that exists operate as participating parties, cooperating with the CPC to build the country. The ruling ZANU PF should in fact incorporate progressive members of the opposition so that we unite towards one objective. We all want development. People spoke through Parliament and their views were incorporated into law. Let's give room for Gvt to work not kuda kungoita ruzha hazvibetseri.

While I recognize and commend Sekuru's intent to express gratitude towards the Police, it is imperative to adhere to established decorum and respect in such acknowledgments. Failing to do so could inadvertently undermine the integrity and standing of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP). This is precisely why established procedures and protocols guide the process for donations to the ZRP. We have witnessed state institutions suffer reputational damage, as the perceptions created can mislead the public into believing that individuals like Sekuru possess the influence to manipulate these entities. For example, while no explicit statements have been made publicly, the public to this day believe that Sekuru rewarded those responsible for sentencing Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu, given his well-known desire for their punishment. Such circumstances set a precarious precedent, giving rise to skepticism regarding the merit of judicial decisions and the weight of evidence. People begin to doubt whether judgements are based on merit and the weight of evidence or the individuals involved, most of whom abuse the name of the President. We begin to wonder is it justice or money? The impartiality of the Courts becomes suspect. This erosion of confidence raises a critical question: Is our system driven by justice or by financial influence? Consequently, the impartiality of the courts becomes suspect. The judiciary should also be worried about such scenarios and the attendant repercussions. As it is, within the current milieu, there exists a palpable eagerness to engage with any Chivayo case among state institutions, primarily driven by the allure of potential rewards. This mentality is both misguided and perilous. Any state institution ought to operate on principles of professionalism, delivering impartial justice to all. Justice should never be perceived as a commodity, incentivized through gifts or financial contributions. Otherwise what will be the fate of those who lack financial resources? It makes us wonder whether justice would also be expeditiously delivered in other gruesome cases like Mutangadura's murder, if money exchanged hands. Some of us have endured numerous litigations and challenges. Rather than relying on the power associated with the President's name, we have consistently sought recourse through the proper channels of justice. In the recent Rengwe case, we achieved a favorable court outcome and plan to pursue legal action against the ZRP for wrongful arrest. This approach is crucial for preserving the credibility of state institutions. I am not opposed to giving or donating; however, it is essential that such acts are conducted in a manner that safeguards the integrity of the institution involved. Parliament must also fulfill its oversight responsibilities and prevent inappropriate practices from taking root. Over the years, one of the most significant impediments to African democracy has been the fragility of its institutions, which remain susceptible to corruption and manipulation by powerful individuals. State services should never give the illusion of being available for purchase by the highest bidder and justice must not be understood as a privilege reserved for the affluent. Institutions are inherently larger than any individual, and they should uphold their dignity, ensuring that they are not perceived merely as convenient tools for the wealthy. The entire Police force deserves support rather than the favor of a select few. Thus, it is essential to contribute to the ZRP as an entire entity, rather than creating the impression of purchasing control. I had the opportunity to visit Thathokuhle Farm in Douglasdale, just outside Bulawayo, a 44-hectare agricultural enterprise with a diverse range of activities, including medicinal cannabis, fish farming, piggery, strawberries, dragon fruit and fig production. The farm has great potential to generate foreign currency, create employment and contribute meaningfully to the growth and diversification of Zimbabwe’s economy. I was particularly impressed by the dedicated greenhouse sections, which utilise high-grade imported and locally cross-bred genetics, as well as the farm’s capacity to dry and prepare medicinal cannabis and related products for international markets. The enterprise currently employs more than 80 regular workers, with employment increasing during peak harvest periods, demonstrating its potential to expand its contribution to livelihoods and local economic activity. I also took the opportunity to engage with the management on the challenges facing the initiative and to appreciate the practical support required to unlock its full potential. Recognising the importance of such investments in driving production, exports and job creation, I offered tax relief measures to support the farm’s continued growth and development. Initiatives such as Thathokuhle Farm are a clear demonstration of the value of supporting productive enterprises that can strengthen Zimbabwe’s economy and position our agricultural sector for greater participation in international markets.

Zimbabwe and Iran signed 12 memorandums of understanding in 2023 to strengthen bilateral ties. We shall be visiting the country at the invitation of the Iranian Gvt to further explore business opportunities there. The 12 MOUs include plans to create a tractor manufacturing plant in Zimbabwe with an Iranian company and a local partner. The two countries also have co-operation agreements for energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunications as well as research, science and technology projects. Both Iran and Zimbabwe have had sanctions imposed on them by the US. Thus cooperation between us is not just positive but imperative. We thank the Iranian Ambassador to Zimbabwe HE Amir Hossein Hosseini for facilitating this historic initiative.
