¡JUSTICIA PARA LA JUEZA AFIUNI! Después de más de 15 años de persecución, la jueza María Lourdes Afiuni recibe la notificación de libertad plena y cierre definitivo de su caso. Una noticia que representa un acto de justicia para quien fue convertida en símbolo de la persecución contra la independencia judicial en Venezuela. En diciembre de 2009, Afiuni fue detenida pocas horas después de ordenar la libertad condicional de un empresario, en cumplimiento de una recomendación del Grupo de Trabajo sobre la Detención Arbitraria de la ONU. El dictador Hugo Chávez exigió públicamente la pena máxima en su contra. A partir de ese momento sufrió prisión, arresto domiciliario, restricciones a su libertad y un proceso judicial que se prolongó durante años, convirtiéndose en uno de los casos más emblemáticos de persecución política contra una jueza y de sometimiento del Poder Judicial al poder político. Hoy celebramos que, aunque con un retraso inadmisible, se hizo justicia. Que la libertad de María Lourdes Afiuni sea también un recordatorio de que Venezuela necesita una justicia verdaderamente independiente, donde ningún juez vuelva a ser perseguido por cumplir la ley. 🇻🇪
