पिछले विधानसभा चुनाव में आदिवासी क्षेत्रों में हमने 11 सीटें जीती थीं। कांकेर में हम महज 18 वोटों से हारे, वहीं पत्थलगांव में करीब 250 वोटों से और पाली-तानाखार में भी बहुत कम वोटों से हार हुई। इस तरह देखें तो 14 सीटों पर हमारी स्थिति बेहद मजबूत रही। कुल 28 आदिवासी सीटों में हम लगभग बराबरी की स्थिति में थे। कुछ सीटों पर 200-500 वोटों के मामूली अंतर से हम पिछड़ गए, वरना आदिवासी सीटों पर हमारा प्रदर्शन बराबरी का था। इसलिए यह कहना कि आदिवासी सीटों पर हम हार गए, पूरी तरह सही नहीं है।
