Kenyan entertainer DJ Macdee has successfully tracked down and recovered his stolen Ksh 280,000 Pioneer DJM-S11 mixer, only to be hit with a shocking twist involving the police. The high-end equipment was broken into and stolen from his car on July 7th. After spotting it being advertised online a month later, Macdee partnered with officers from the Mugutha Police Station to launch a sting operation. The trail led them to arrest a suspect, DJ Mkenia, who ultimately escorted the team to a residence in Parklands owned by Shah Ashish. Inside the house, the mixer was recovered alongside a massive stash of other suspected stolen electronic goods, including TVs, speakers, and generators. However, the breakthrough has been marred by controversy. DJ Macdee discovered that the primary suspect, Shah Ashish, was mysteriously released on cash bail by the Mugutha OCS at midnight without his knowledge. The DJ is now publicly calling on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to ensure transparency and answers as to why a key suspect was released in the dead of night.

Today I say a prayer for Kizza Besigye and all political prisoners in Uganda. Besigye is critically ill and is being held in poor conditions at Luzira Maximum Security Prison. If he is not released immediately to receive specialised treatment, he will die in prison. His former personal assistant, Sam Mugumya, was tortured nearly to death for refusing to betray Besigye and was left wheelchair-bound. He is being held in an unknown location. If KB dies in prison, Ruto is to blame for abducting him in Nairobi and handing him over to his torturers. Uganda’s dictator, Yoweri Museveni, has been abducting, torturing, and even killing innocent Ugandans. This is a clear sign that international law applies selectively. Museveni has been in power for 40 years yet faces no sanctions, because Uganda grants oil concessions to the right Western multinationals and hires out its military for mercenary work in Somalia, South Sudan, and the Congo. The West will continue to ignore the human rights abuses occurring in Uganda as long as their interests remain unthreatened. The dictator’s son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, is known for throwing tantrums online and posting death threats against the opposition. He is holding hundreds of Ugandan opposition supporters in torture dungeons and has even posted pictures of their torture. Despite this, Muhoozi, Uganda’s torturer and butcher-in-chief and effectively a war criminal, travels about without restriction. A graduate of Sandhurst, he even attended his son Ruhamya’s graduation ceremony at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom this past week. This evening, Kenya lost Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, a respected psychologist, researcher, and public servant. The clinical psychologist and researcher was shot dead near Kenyatta National Hospital by hired assassins in broad daylight. Those who pulled the trigger were merely completing a mission paid a few coins to end a life. How valueless and useless life has become in Kenya. For a few thousand shillings, your heartbeat can be stopped forever. Every time armed men terrorize Kenyans, it is 99% men. There is outrage, there is footage, there are victims but almost never accountability. The violence, chaos, assassinations, and threats of tribal clashes benefit President Ruto; that is why there are no arrests and prosecutions. According to Ruto’s government, more than 300 organized criminal gangs operate across Kenya. Gangs are like marriages or car owners: there is a certificate or a logbook linking them to the real owner. If Ruto wants to stop goonism, he should go after the beneficiaries including the men and women who are causing havoc, raping, abducting, and killing Kenyans to protect his regime. Whether Victoria Nthunya Mutiso’s death was a targeted assassination, a contract killing, or another form of premeditated murder, one thing is undeniable: Kenyans are living with a growing sense that no one is truly safe. Kenya will never be safe if we are not all safe. I demand that we withdraw the many officers deployed to protect the thugs at State House, the governors, senators, and members of parliament, and redeploy them to protect ordinary Kenyans. A few weeks ago I bumped into Gilbert Masengeli, Deputy Inspector General of Police, and Mohamed Amin, the Director of Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), at the 250th anniversary of America’s independence. I told them to their faces: continue abducting and killing us, but one day you shall pay. Ruto will not be there to protect your spineless selves who obey illegal orders, we shall jail you. We demand that the DCI conduct an independent, transparent, and swift investigation. Every lead must be followed. Every person responsible whether they pulled the trigger or paid for the bullet must face justice. This is not just about one life. It is about the kind of country we are becoming, where fear is replacing freedom and intimidation, bullets, abductions, and assassinations are threatening the rule of law. We refuse to normalize violence. We refuse to accept silence as our national language. We shall not be cowed by abductions, arrests, and assassinations. We demand truth and justice.
