Something I did not realize at first: Lindsay Clancy was never diagnosed with postpartum depression or psychosis. These diagnoses have only been applied to her during this trial.

Lindsay Clancy saw 6 doctors and had multiple hospital stays in the months leading up to the murder of her children. She was never once diagnosed with postpartum depression or psychosis. I did not realize this originally. These terms have been used and applied only during this trial, never before she killed the kids. Most people do not know that. Goes to show how social media narratives can have a huge impact on how you perceive truth. She had been diagnosed with a mood disorder that left her depressed. She had reportedly considered suicide. She had trouble sleeping. That’s why she was on and off so many medications. But never had she claimed to have heard voices, except for during the short window that she killed her babies. A psychologist today testified that hearing voices only once would be extremely unusual if a person is truly having a psychotic episode. When I first started talking about this trial weeks ago, I thought the defense’s case was compelling. I have long been concerned about the effects of SSRIs and thought for sure they could be the culprit. I don’t see the strong case for that anymore. I think Lindsay was methodical, deliberate, and knew exactly what she was doing.

“It’s emotionally compelling to say killing babies. It’s not a baby. That’s not me being contrarian, that’s accuracy.” But it’s not accurate. It is a baby. We use different terms for different stages of life. We call a child a toddler or an adolescent a teenager. Those designations describe a stage of development - they don’t change the value or humanity of the person. Killing an innocent person is always wrong.

Prosecution’s witness, forensic psychologist Dr. Kirk Heilbrun, who assessed Lindsay Clancy over a 3 day period, testified yesterday and today that, in his assessment: - Lindsay suffers from bipolar 2 and depression - she was not suffering a manic episode when she killed her children - she did and does not have psychosis - postpartum or otherwise - she maintained full awareness of the criminality of her decisions and planned them deliberately - she committed “altruistic filicide” - killing those you love because you think it will help them but was of otherwise sound mind when she did so

We can have grace for people’s struggles - postpartum and otherwise - without excusing or minimizing the methodical murder of children. Lindsay Clancy may have been suffering from psychosis - none of us really knows - but all people who commit heinous crimes are probably suffering from some level of insanity. I’m sorry that she may have been suffering and that she didn’t have the support she needed. But once we start negating accountability for evil because of mental health diagnoses, we forgo justice altogether. I’m not willing to do that.

The Lindsay Clancy support is why I use the term “toxic empathy” rather than “suicidal empathy.” Suicidal empathy is just one of the toxic forms of empathy, but it doesn’t describe much of what we see from liberal women today. The deep empathy they feel for Lindsay isn’t suicidal but homicidal. It does not endanger them; it endangers others. Toxic Empathy is when you allow your deep feelings for one person to blind you to both reality and morality. So focused are you on the plight of one group or individual that you forget about those on the other side of the moral equation. Toxic empathy feels so deeply for the pregnant woman in crisis that it ignores the rights and pain of the baby that’s murdered via abortion. It feels so deeply for the plight of the migrant that it ignores the victims of immigration chaos like Laken Riley. It is so overwhelmed by Lindsay Clancy’s emotional pain that it completely obscures the physical torture of three innocent children. This kind of empathy - which plunges a person into irrationality - is not always suicidal, but it is always toxic. It makes fairness, objectivity, and justice very, very difficult.

To understand some of the unconditional defense of Lindsey Clancy and the baseless accusations of her husband circulating on feminist TikTok, you have to clue in to the content that women are consuming on a daily basis. The backdrop of their brains is made up of true crime podcasts, fiction books, and TV shows that paint every woman - even murderous ones - as a complex heroine, who did a horrible thing as her only chance at freedom and empowerment. She’s portrayed as, at best, brave and unhindered, and, at worst, layered and misunderstood. This dynamic has completely warped the lib female consciousness and conscience. They cannot imagine a world in which a woman - especially a struggling one - just did an evil thing and should be held accountable for it

Babies as young as 19 weeks have been delivered and survived. By 24 weeks - still the second trimester - babies have a very solid chance of survival. You don’t have to be a doctor to understand the simple fact that late term abortion is never medically necessary. If the baby needs to be removed to save mom, delivery is the option. There is no reason to kill the baby first. In fact, the two-day abortion process is much riskier for women than an emergency c-section.
