And studies suggest that when you add banana to a blueberry smoothie, you may absorb fewer of the beneficial polyphenols from the berries! So instead, I use avocado.     This is one of the more concerning consumer-exposure studies I’ve seen in a while. 98% of personal care and household products contained at least one chemical that was not disclosed on the label, including several endocrine-disrupting chemicals such as bisphenols, phthalates, and parabens. 85% contained at least one chemical with a known or suspected health hazard, more than half failed testing because of undisclosed contaminants, and 26% contained chemicals that directly contradicted claims on the label. On average, the products contained more than 3x as many chemicals as their labels disclosed. And this included products marketed as “natural,” “non-toxic,” and “fragrance-free.” I’ve talked for years about reducing unnecessary exposure to endocrine disruptors. But you can’t avoid a chemical if you don’t know it’s there! Ingredient labels alone may simply not be enough at this point. We need much better testing and transparency of the products people are putting on their bodies and using in their homes every single day.

    Regular sauna users appear to develop fewer respiratory illnesses. A new study offers a clue as to why. After a single 30-minute sauna, several white blood cell populations, including neutrophils and lymphocytes, moved into circulation, and the response was similar regardless of participants’ usual sauna habits. One session cannot establish a long-term immune benefit. But in a long-running Finnish study, men using a sauna two to three times weekly had a 27 percent lower risk of pneumonia, asthma, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Among those using one at least four times weekly, the risk was 41 percent lower. A small controlled trial also found roughly half as many common colds among regular sauna users during the final three months of a six-month study. This all suggests that repeated heat exposure may promote immune resilience by briefly mobilizing immune cells while supporting a less inflammatory resting environment over time.

    Berberine has been on my radar for glucose control for years, and this new study caught my attention. People who took a biooptimized form of berberine at just 200 mg/day for 2 weeks saw reductions in fasting glucose, improved glucose tolerance, and a 22-29% increase in fasting and post-meal GLP-1 levels. The GLP-1 finding is particularly interesting because it suggests berberine may influence some of the same incretin biology that has become such a major focus in metabolic health. Berberine isn’t part of my regular supplement routine anymore (I've shifted more toward alpha-lipoic acid), although I still think the evidence for glucose and lipid control is interesting. These results make me interested in seeing larger, independent, longer-term trials of lower-dose, more bioavailable formulations.
