I am LAVERN SPICER and I’m not running for anything. I run a food bank. That means I see the same faces every week. Grandmothers stretching a bag of groceries like it’s supposed to last till Friday. Working men who clock in and still can’t cover rent and bread. Kids who know the pantry schedule better than they know their own fathers. I don’t need a poll to tell me what’s happening in our neighborhoods. I see it in the line. Crime is up and hope is thin. Schools are loud about everything except reading, writing and arithmetic. The corner is more dangerous than it was when I was young. I won’t pretend that isn’t failure. I also won’t spend my life hunting a party label. Hunger doesn’t check your voter card. A bullet doesn’t either. So I will work with anybody - ANYBODY - who will help put food on the table, fathers back in the home, and safety back on the block. If you’ll stand up for that, come stand in the line with me. If you only show up for a camera and leave before the boxes are packed, stay home. I’m a conservative Black woman because I believe we are not broken. I believe God still has work for us. I believe discipline, family, work, and faith built more of us than any government program ever did. I didn’t open this door to start a war. I opened it because people were hungry.
