Getachew K Reda engagement report
@reda_getachew - 487K followers on X
Measured over 7 original posts from a 30-day window, last computed on August 28, 2026.
Engagement
Early reading. We have captured 7 original posts for this account, below the 8 we require before treating a median as settled. The numbers above describe what we have seen so far, not a finished profile of the account.
A typical post picks up 547 interactions against 487K followers, an engagement rate of 0.112%. Posts are seen about 80K times each, and 0.684% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 16.4% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 0.4 posts a day over the last 30 days, though only 27% of days saw any activity at all. Most posts go out around 15:00 UTC, and Friday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 7 posts sampled, 43% carry an image or video, 14% are part of a thread and 14% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 1.7K interactions, about 3.1x its own typical post. Only 7 original posts have been captured so far, fewer than the 8 posts we want behind a median before treating it as settled. Read the figures above as an early measurement of this account, not as a finished profile of it.

How time flies?! Fourteen years since Meles’s passing. He was one of a kind, indeed! Whatever misgivings some might have had about his policies-no leader is immune to criticism- he did everything he could to live by every one of his principles and for good measure gave his all to everything he held dear. May he rest in peace!

Recent false and misleading reports have mischaracterized U.S. diplomacy in the Horn of Africa as an attempt to court an “anti-Ethiopian alliance.” That narrative is both inaccurate and needlessly inflammatory. The United States works with Ethiopia and all countries across the Horn of Africa and the wider Red Sea region to advance shared priorities. Engagement with one regional partner should not be distorted into hostility toward another. U.S. diplomacy is not about creating rival blocs or deepening divisions—it is about working constructively with all partners to prevent conflict and promote lasting peace and security.

After months of denying entering into an alliance with internal and external forces with an axe to grind against the Ethiopian federal government, the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) leadership has now reached the point of publicly declaring that it has crossed the Rubicon, as it were. According to it, there is no peaceful resolution to the impasse with the federal government, and it has decided to resort to force. The goal is not to liberate Western Tigray as many of us have always assumed the objective to be-preferably and more legitimately peacefully-but, as the head of the TPLF secretariat put it, because "the security of the people of Tigray can only be assured on the grave of the Prosperity Party led regime." It is abhorrent that any politician, entrusted with the welfare of their own constituency would frame their security as contingent on the demise of a domestically elected government. Needless to say, this is not the language of a leader seeking to protect their people, but of one prepared to sacrifice them for a cause dressed up as their salvation. In light of the TPLF leadership's well-documented tradition of sloganeering, I'd not have cared one bit if Debretsion and his ilk had just been repeating an old mantra. But unfortunately, there obviously is an evil principle at work here. The very leadership that has presided over Tigray's continued descent into the seemingly bottomless pit of tragedy is now flaunting in public its rather ungodly alliance with the very forces vehemently opposed to the Pretoria Agreement. The alliance, we are told, is ostensibly meant to achieve, by force, not the rather modest objective of the fullest implementation of Pretoria, such as the restoration of Tigray's constitutionally mandated territory, but more pointedly, the removal of the government in Addis Ababa. Indeed, the TPLF leadership has now publicly articulated, as the mainstay of its repertoire for addressing differences with the federal government, what it had long denied: that it has been working with the regime in Asmara and other forces opposed to Addis Ababa. Whatever the characterization here, it is now an open secret that the goal posts have shifted and the ultimate goal is the overthrow of the federal government, consequences be damned. I don't lose sleep over whether such a goal is achievable. It is not; but the ramifications of such a futile effort for peace in the region in general and for the very existence of the people of Tigray in particular cannot be overstated. The dramatis personae in this so-called alliance makes it abundantly clear that, if allowed their way, they would stop at nothing to wreak unmitigated havoc on the entire region. Recent events bear this argument out. Peace cannot survive hidden military maneuvers. The skirmish in Shererina has made it clear how high the stakes are in this game of brinkmanship the regime in Asmara, its junior partners within Ethiopia, and its external handlers are orchestrating. The large cache of munitions and weapons captured is proof positive that far from addressing the plight of the people of Tigray, dismantling the Ethiopian state is the ultimate objective in this dangerous game. Covert transfers of heavy military equipment into Tigray or other parts of the country represent a clear and present danger to stability efforts across the Horn of Africa. Despite TPLF leaders' claims, the number of lives needlessly lost during that half a day engagement foreshadows the enormity of the disaster lurking ahead not just for the people of Tigray but for the people of Ethiopia at large. What should matter to the members of the Tigray army is the survival and peace of the people of Tigray, not the survival of a handful of criminals who have always considered waging war their retirement plan. To the rank and file: tell those who are frittering your lives away that enough is enough.

Developments in Sudan are once again proving the futility of the efforts by the warring sides to bring about a conclusive military victory against one another. Despite General Burhan’s much touted military gains against the RSF the last few weeks, the RSF on its part is now turning the tide against Port Sudan with its latest recapture of Kurmuk and Qaisen in Blue Nile State. What will unfold tomorrow and the day after is anybody’s guess. Towns and garrisons will certainly be shifting hands every other week, depending on a number of variables. But there is one constant: the misery of the people of Sudan gets worse by the day. More testerone is not the solution: both sides should come to terms with the fact that talking, not shooting, is the only game in town. This was our message to General Burhan last time we paid him a visit in Port Sudan. No amount of external support from state or non-state actors is going to make much of a difference. The international community needs to get its acts together to help the generous people of Sudan regain the peace they so richly deserve.

Friederich Nietzsche once quipped that when fighting for freedom, one has to distinguish between ‘freedom from’ and ‘freedom for’. Unless your ‘freedom from’ leads to a freedom for something, that freedom might as well be another form of Unfreedom- or in the language of the 18th century, Slavery.

Why would any leader in their right mind dedicate the majority of their national day message to Trump, MAGA and the US-led global order rather than their country's own national development, growth and stability? https://t.co/qEg1ETuSTy
