BUT #Toxic is body beautiful minus soul... Falls flat in the second half... #Yash certainly deserved a better script! #ToxicReview #Toxic is NOT conventional cinema – you realise that right at the outset... Director #GeetuMohandas introduces you to a world and its characters that appear unusual, unpredictable, and intriguing. The first half has several highpoints that stay with you – the first 20-odd minutes and, especially, the interval point are standout moments. Drama, glamour, conflict, and action – #Toxic has it all, and in abundance… The emotional quotient forms the foundation of the first half, but is unfortunately underdeveloped post-interval. The second half takes the film's graph downhill… The story stagnates, the writing lacks meat, and what you're served are action sequences… and more action sequences. It's only when the father-son face-off comes into focus that the film begins to grab your attention all over again... The action that follows is spectacular and ferocious... However, the son's track, in particular, may evoke mixed reactions once the reality dawns upon the viewer. #Yash returns to the big screen after the blockbuster success of #KGF2, and he is simply marvellous... Charisma, intensity, swagger, and screen presence – #Yash delivers a towering performance and commands every frame. #KiaraAdvani is top notch, especially in the emotional moments... #Nayanthara excels, and her sibling bonding with #Yash – including the flashback portions – keeps you invested. #TaraSutaria does well, but her screen time is limited... #RukminiVasanth is wasted – an actress of her calibre deserved far better... #HumaQureshi does very well, although her character had considerably more potential. The background score is electrifying, while the action sequences are ferocious and visually striking... Among the songs, #Tabaahi stands out. ⭐ Final word? #Toxic is a classic case of style over substance... The film rides primarily on #Yash's immense star power, charisma, and popularity – factors that have also contributed to its FANTASTIC start at the boxoffice... Matching those expectations is no easy task, especially since the magic created by #EmraanHashmi, director #MohitSuri, and #VisheshFilms remains strong to date. What stands out most about #Awarapan2 is Shivam's story – this time, his bond with a child takes centre stage... The narrative takes a completely different path, with action pieces generously sprinkled across the proceedings. The film starts off very well, with the child-trafficking issue clearly spelt out right at the outset... However, as it progresses, the narrative deviates into several sub-plots that could have been avoided. Director #NitinKakkar shoulders a tremendous responsibility and, to his credit, handles several sequences smartly: ⭐ The car chase on the streets of #Bangkok at the very start; ⭐ The backstory of Disha, Anirudh Rawal, and Puran Gabbi's parents; ⭐ The finale. Additionally, he smartly incorporates flashes from the first part, leveraging the recall value and nostalgia factor... These moments seamlessly connect the two films while giving fans a sense of familiarity. Writers #BilalSiddiqui and #VisheshBhatt ensure that the backbone of the story – #ShivamPandit – remains the focal point... The writers also know when to hold back and when to hit hard, resulting in several sequences that genuinely stay with you. #EmraanHashmi is superb as Shivam... He brings vulnerability, intensity, and a lived-in quality to the character, making Shivam's journey deeply affecting... This is one of the most compelling performances of his filmography. #DishaPatani delivers a sincere and emotionally charged performance, while #ShabanaAzmi deserved more screen time, with some punch-packed sequences that match her talent. #PuranGabbi, as the antagonist, is effective, but goes overboard at places... #AniruddhRawal enacts his part with conviction... #SurendarVicky and #VijayantKohli lend able support. The music of #Awarapan2 is a definite plus, although comparisons with the first part are inevitable. ⭐ Final word?
